MONTGOMERY - The on Monday, July 13, that two more incarcerated people have died from COVID-19. This brings the total number of deaths of people incarcerated in ADOC facilities to twelve.

Dillon Nettles, policy analyst, said:

"ADOC has announced more COVID-19 related deaths of incarcerated people in Alabama. The first COVID-19 patient in ADOC custody passed away nearly three months ago, and in recent weeks two prison staffers have also died. Mitigating this crisis as it has spread to our prisons is a responsibility that falls squarely upon Commissioner Dunn and ADOC leadership. While they announced earlier this week that they would expand testing, they have not explained how they will actually execute testing at scale and adequately distance individuals who have been tested from those who have not. It is imperative that ADOC address this crisis with the urgent and life-preserving response it demands before another person dies from their lack of action."
