On April 29, 2025, the Ƶ submitted a letter to the United Nations Special Rapporteurs on the promotion and protection of human rights while countering terrorism and on torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment, Mr. Ben Saul and Dr. Alice Jill Edwards respectively, requesting the issuance of an urgent communication to the United States of America and to the Republic of El Salvador regarding their agreement in which the U.S. will pay El Salvador six million dollars to detain individuals removed from the U.S. for a period of one year. This submission expands on the case of J.G.G. et al., an on-going legal challenge to the government of the United States’ removal of Venezuelan nationals from the United States to El Salvador by improperly utilizing a wartime legal authority to circumvent domestic immigration law and binding international human rights obligations.
